It’s true that preventive maintenance may cost more in the short run, but will save you thousands of dollars, and wasted weekends during the life of your boat. Does a boat ever break down when you’re not using it? No, it breaks down on the weekend when you’re using it, often ruining your weekend. It’s always better to prevent a major problem by solving a minor one.

Water impellers, and batteries are a couple of examples of preventive maintenance. They should be changed every 2-years even if they don’t seem to be giving you problems now. A $200.00 water pump impeller could save you from spending $5000.00- 7500.00 for a new motor from overheating. Catastrophic damage can be done even if you have a warning system. A battery that’s about to go bad won’t always give you a warning either. It may start your boat, but fail later in the day after running the stereo for a few hours.

Most boat owners are in a break, and fix mode. Instead of spending a few dollars more to do preventive maintenance they just fix what’s broken at the time. Holiday Harbor Marina will be giving away over $2000 in prizes during the Progressive Insurance Atlanta Boat Show, January 12th-15th . The grand prize is an iPad2, but the other prizes are all as impressive. Friday’s prize is a a weekend getaway at, well of course, Holiday Harbor Marina. On Friday we will be giving away a weekend cottage getaway in one of our seven lakeside Cottages. This is a three night trip that can be redeemed any three consecutive days in 2012 (holidays excluded).

Holiday Harbor Cottages are located inside the marina on the banks of tankard creek and festival cove. Holiday cottages offer, easy water access and panoramic lake views. Each cabin has two bedrooms, fully furnished kitchen, dining room, living room, satellite TV and lakeside porch. The cottages have a large lakeside common area with room for lounging, fire pit for hanging out at night and grills for your culinary needs.
