Arthritis is a condition that will affect all of us if we live long enough. Some people are diagnosed when they are young, as with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Others are diagnosed in middle age, as with gout. But the majority of patients with arthritis are diagnosed in their later years with the most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis.

Arthritis is characterized by the destruction of cartilage lining our joints. It can affect almost any joint in the body, but most commonly involves the hips, knees, shoulders and hands. The onset of arthritis is usually insidious. Achy pain and stiffness are usually the first signs, but with time, swelling, limited motion, and diminished activity ensue.

The treatments for arthritis range from limited activity, anti-inflammatory medication and bracing, to surgical joint replacement. The goal of treatment is improved function and diminished pain. With the help of doctors, and specifically specialists such as Dr. Furie, pain relief is attainable for all those that suffer.
